Bill Anton
Bill Anton was born in Chicago, and graduated from Northern Arizona University before studying painting with the western artists Michael Lynch and Ned Jacob. He does much of his painting outdoors, striving to achieve a vitality that photography could never match. Bill has won many awards for his work, which has been displayed in the prestigious Autry Museum, the Western Heritage Museum, and the National Center for American Western Art, and is in the permanent collection of the Gilcrease Museum.
Bill is fascinated by the western landscape and its inhabitants. Although he portrays today’s working cowboy, he does not see himself as a biographer; instead he works to capture the mood and passion of this subject. If he is documenting anything, it is his feelings and love for the West. "An artist under the spell of the west," he writes, "has the privilege of marshalling the virtues of landscape, figure and equine painting into one supremely paintable subject: the American cowboy." |
