Now In: Etchings/Serigraphs → Nieto, John
John Nieto John Nieto was born in New Mexico, near the Rio Grande, where he currently lives. He received his BA in art at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he is now a regent. His works have been shown across the world, in exhibitions in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. He was the official artist of the 2002 Olympics. John combines classic icons of American culture, particularly that of the west, with bold colors and energetic brushwork to create his distinctive style. The resulting images are more symbolic than exact, enthusiastically capturing the spirit of his subjects. "I employ a subject matter that is familiar and express it from my own perspective," he says of his work, further describing it as "the result of an emotional involvement rather than a cerebral one."
