Now In: Our Gallery Artists → Gilleon, Tom
Tom Gilleon Tom Gilleon has had a wide and varied career, working for patrons as diverse as Disney and NASA. He has designed theme park exhibits, drawn movie storyboards, painted film backgrounds, and illustrated books. This variety reflects his own varied interests, as well as his travels around the country. While he continues his illustration work today, Tom often retreats to his remote ranch in Montana to paint scenes of Plains Indian life for his own satisfaction. His philosophy has always been that "simplicity and strength are the keys to fine art. Light, color, value, composition and line are paramount in importance...In eliminating the unnecessary elements and being as direct as possible, an artist has the opportunity to tell a story, to guide the viewer's eye and emotion." Tom's teepee paintings provide a perfect demonstration of this approach, evoking the character of the Plains cultures through their stark forms and dramatic lighting.
